Ultimate intrinsic SNR is the largest SNR allowed by electrodynamic theory for a given sample geometry and set of electrical properties, independent of the particulars of radiofrequency (RF) coil design. Therefore, Ultimate intrinsic SNR provides an absolute benchmark for evaluating the performance of RF detector coils.

The MatLab code available here for download provides all functions necessary for the calculations. The package also includes a simple guide that explains how to estimate the scaling factor for comparisons between experimentally measured SNR and ultimate intrinsic SNR calculated by this code.
